Canary Wharf Group plc has overseen the largest urban regeneration project ever undertaken in Europe, designing and building more than 17m sq ft of London real estate, which now houses local and international companies and renowned retailers.
The Canary Wharf estate is a major retail destination comprising around 1m sq ft across five shopping malls, including the award-winning leisure development, Crossrail Place, housing one of London’s most stunning roof gardens. It also has world-class, year-round arts and events programme offering over 200 diverse and culturally inspiring events performed throughout the Estate.
Canary Wharf Group are supporting Open City, the architecture education organisation, and are celebrating excellence in architecture and the built environment in recognition of this year’s theme, ‘Building Today’s Trusted City’.
The Open-City float has been inspired by London's 25 most popular buildings as chosen by London's public. The float will showcase the 25 buildings arranged as a capriccio which means an architectural fantasy and the placing together of buildings in a fictional combination. The capriccio will form the outer façade of the float on which Open House volunteers will stand.
2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Open-City and to celebrate the occasion, Open-City would like to celebrate London's most popular 25 buildings and the outstanding architecture in our city with London's public. Open City would like to use the Lord Mayor's show as an opportunity to highlight the anniversary and to promote the main ambition of the charity which is to champion excellence in design quality and advocate for an inclusive and informed approach to the development of our city.
