Sir John Cass’s Foundation makes grants to support the education of young people in London through its grant programmes for individuals, schools and organisations, and it supports a number of institutions bearing the Cass name. 2018 marks the tercentenary of its founder Sir John Cass’s death. Sir John Cass was a politician and philanthropist born in the City of London in 1661. He served as both Alderman and Sheriff of the City.
The Foundation along with Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School and Sir John Cass’s Foundation and Red Coat Secondary School and other members of the Cass family of institutions are celebrating 300 years of supporting education in London by participating in the Lord Mayor’s Show this year.
You may notice that the red feather is a prominent part of our float - the story goes that Sir John Cass died while writing his Will and the red feather has come to represent the bloodstained quill he was using at the time…
