The Band of the Scots Guards represents the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards. One of five Foot Guards Bands based in London, it provides music for events such as the Changing of the Guard and State Visits. The Band recently deployed on Op RESCRIPT for Covid-19.

The Band of the Welsh Guards was formed in 1915. Since then, it has supported the Regiment, the Commonwealth and the Monarchy with military music, travelling far and wide.

The first 70+ Livery Companies to be formed in the City of London have been promoting their respective crafts and supporting their Lord Mayors ever since the early Middle Ages. Today they are just as active and relevant to the British economy and also raise millions of pounds to donate to good causes every year.

Gog and Magog - The ancient guardians of the City of London have been a feature of this show for centuries. Today’s giant willow figures were made by the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers and are escorted by the Guild of Young Freemen founded by the Corporation to encourage the participation of young Liverymen in the affairs and traditions of the City.

The Armourers and Brasiers began life in 1322 as a trade guild in the City London with a monopoly in armour-making.

Based in Armourers’ Hall since 1346, the Company’s main charitable remit is now to make the UK the best place in the world to study, research, or practise Materials Science, a reinterpretation of its historic vocation of cutting-edge metallurgy.

The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers & Coach Harness Makers entry is centred around a reconstruction of the famous Nimrod Coach, which carried passengers from London to Brighton. It is drawn by four horses with the Master Coachmaker, Wardens, Clerk, Assistant Clerk and guests riding atop, accompanied by the coachman, groom and hornblower. The hornblower will be playing traditional coaching calls and tunes to entertain the passengers.

Walking alongside the coach you will see a flag bearer, carrying a flag emblazoned with the Coachmakers crest, and Liverymen in their livery gowns.

Our entry highlights the survival of these traditional coach making skills into the modern day and the importance of maintaining them through apprentices, ensuring these are passed onto the next generation.

This is a core focus of the Coachmakers, our mission statement being “an active livery investing in young people”. We aim to achieve this by, amongst other things, scholarships in the automotive and aerospace sectors – the modern equivalents of our forebears industries as well as supporting a wide range of apprentices in both the traditional and modern trades.

Rotary in London is going "Purple4Polio" in the Lord Mayor’s Show to mark the amazing fact that we are so close to making history by eradicating polio and achieving Rotary's goal of a polio-free world.

Rotarians will be dressed in vibrant purple to celebrate that we are on the brink of an historic milestone: eradicating only the second human disease ever after smallpox.

There have been just 30 cases of wild poliovirus worldwide this year. There were 2 in Afghanistan, 20 in Pakistan which are the two remaining polio-endemic countries, and 8 in Mozambique.  This compares to a thousand cases of polio a day in 125 countries when Rotary started the campaign to rid the world of polio in 1985.

Since 1988, Rotary has spearheaded the campaign as a partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative with the World Health Organisation, Unicef, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and more recently the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, who are matching ever pound (or dollar) that Rotary raises to eradicate polio with another two, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Rotarians around the world have raised more than 2.6 billion US dollars to fight polio so far and given countless hours of volunteering to help immunise nearly 3 billion children globally against polio.

Detection of poliovirus in sewage samples in London, Israel and in New York State where an unvaccinated 20-year-old man was paralysed by polio, shows that we need to finish the job and end polio now and forever. This means continuing to raise awareness and funds for immunisation campaigns in at-risk areas, as well as routine immunisation.

The Rotary "Purple4Polio" campaign is so-called because purple is the colour of the dye placed on the little finger on the left hand of a child to show that they have been immunised against polio.

Rotary in London will be walking and dancing along with The United Wards' Club and a vintage Steam Traction Engine pulling a trailer with a 1910 "Limonaire" circus organ playing music on board.
